With this Asolo Italy guided tour, we will discover one of the most charming historic towns in the Veneto region, walking through historic streets, panoramic viewpoints, and stories of remarkable women who helped make Asolo a legendary place. You will also discover why the Italian poet Giosuè Carducci called it The City of a Hundred Horizons.
We will walk through the historic streets following the stories of three women who were deeply connected to this town.
Caterina Cornaro, Queen Consort of Cyprus, chose Asolo as her residence after the death of her husband, transforming it into a small Renaissance court visited by artists and writers such as Giorgione, Lorenzo Lotto, and Pietro Bembo, who set his work Gli Asolani here.
Eleonora Duse, the famous actress known as “The Divine”, fell in love with the peaceful atmosphere of the town and chose Asolo as her personal retreat. Today, she is buried in the Sant’Anna cemetery.
British explorer Freya Stark, a pioneer of travel in the Middle East and the first woman to cross parts of the Arabian desert, lived in Asolo for many years, in the house now known as Villa Freya.
